Attached are few Animoto videos that I have done. The first one I created with the two girls I babysit for for their mother's birthday back in December. The other two are examples my first graders created to show a timeline of their lives. It went hand-in-hand with our Social Studies curriculum on Growing Up! Let me know if you have any questions!

Thank you, Rosanne, for posting these. The birthday one for the mother is awesome. What a beautiful way for two children to help their mother celebrate her birthday. The video must have brought a big smile to her face. The timeline ones are an excellent way for students to represent milestones in their lives, and they also make a "nice" gift to parents, grandparents, and others. Are you still using Animoto with your students? Do you have an educator's account? Given the age of your students, I assume they need to open the account somehow through you? Just wondering. Also, how did your students react to using Animoto?

ReplyDeleteIt is my pleasure to share them! When the girl’s mother received the video she cried. It is an amazing gift and the feedback I receive from parents, students, and friends is always positive as it leaves a lasting impression and is a real treasure to have! I try to incorporate technology into one of our curriculum projects at least 3 times a year. We used Animoto in November-December for the timelines. In science we are studying animals and will be beginning animal projects. For this project, I am going to let students chose whether they would like to use Voice-Thread or Animoto for the assignment. They have used both before and either would add a wonderful touch to the project requirements. I think it is important to let students explore the technology in an educational way, which is why I have decided, at this point, to let them choose which one they would like to use! I have an educator's account in Animoto and I recently purchased the upgrade so I can have longer videos and more editing options. My students are monitored as they are working with the program and create their videos currently under my account since they are only first graders. Overall, my students were thrilled to give their videos to their parents for the Holiday. They loved every minute of creating them! They enjoyed have the ability to really create their timelines using technology and the music was a big hit!

I am impressed that you have used VoiceThread with your students. If you have any we can see, please create a blog post about the project and embed one or two of the VoiceThreads. I have a blog to post on the Instructional Technology blog about VoiceThread and have the post on the automatic calendar to go "live" on a date when we are ready to learn more about VoiceThread in our course. VoiceThread is an excellent way to create digital stories. Do you have a paid account for the year?
ReplyDeleteI was not surprised to hear that the parents of your children were thrilled to see the Animotos. They hit a personal chord. If your school was not so far away, I would love to visit to watch the children creating their technology projects, but at least you can share samples with us online. Once again, thank you for sharing your students' recent Animoto projects!
By the way, when you have a change, put a RSS feed icons on your blog "gadgets," so I can subscribe to it through Google Reader. I will be showing how to add the RSS feed button in class, but maybe you have figured out to do that already.
I've seen other use Animoto as part of a lesson. I think it's great that your students use it themselves! It's even better that they use it as a sort of digital time capsule! Cool :)
